New Ruthenium complexes I, II and III were synthesized using 5-chlorothiophene-2-carboxylic acid (5TPC), as ligand and the complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR, 1H, 13C NMR, and mass spectroscopic techniques. Photophysical and electrochemical studies were carried out and the structures of the synthesized complex were optimized using density functional theory (DFT). In the present paper, the selective synthesis and characterization of a 5-chlorothiophene-2-carboxylic acid ligand containing ruthenium mononuclear and binuclear complexes are reported and also carried out the DFT studies.
